May is Older Americans Month. This year’s theme recognizes “the profound impact that meaningful relationships and social connections have on our health and well-being.” With the U.S. Surgeon General’s recent declaration of declining public health tied to an epidemic of loneliness and isolation, what better time than now to consider the dazzling beauty and therapeutic power of regular arts participation? Two organizations that have been making waves in the field of creative aging for years will join us on May 15 to share more about the science behind creative aging, the kinds of programs they offer, and opportunities for villages and your members to benefit from various types of programs.
Encore Creativity for Older Adults is the nation's largest and fastest-growing choral organization for older adults with over 1500 singers and 40 ensembles nationwide. Encore’s mission is to create meaningful arts experiences supporting lifelong learning, wellness, and fun for all older adults.
Arts for the Aging engages older adults and caregivers with diverse abilities and backgrounds in health improvement and life enhancement through the multidisciplinary arts. Based in Gaithersburg, MD, programs take place with partners such as community and residential care settings and museums and cultural institutions throughout the DC area.
