Ever wonder what building once stood in a location before the current one went up? For almost 4 decades, contemporary realist painter Joey M&#225;nlapaz captured in her work those 19th century buildings that once housed mom-and-pop stores and businesses. She will share slides of her paintings and will discuss how DC evolved from the sleepy Southern town of her youth to the metropolis of glass and steel buildings today. Joey’s fascination with DC was influenced by her mentor, Frank Wright, at the George Washington University where she earned an MFA in painting. “My work examines the relationship between Richard Estes’s cold factual realism and Edward Hopper’s lonely psychological realism, and attempts to bridge the two concepts to achieve a painterly style with a generous dose of Alfred Hitchcock’s mysterious lighting and atmospheric shadows.”<br /><br />Host Village: Northwest Neighbors Village<br />Registration: Registration limited to 100 attendees and is required. <br />Access: 24 hours before the event, attendees will receive the Zoom link in an email from Northwest Neighbors Village titled &quot;Northwest Neighbors Village Event Reminder” with the event name included.
