Understanding Mental Health and Aging

About this event

Join us for an engaging workshop on common mental health issues experienced by older adults, such as depression, anxiety, grief, and the emotional impact of chronic illness. Learn how to recognize the signs that therapy may be needed and discover practical steps for finding a therapist who accepts Medicare or private insurance.

We will also discuss the differences in supporting those who are homebound compared to those who seek outpatient mental health services, highlighting unique challenges and resources for each.

This session will provide valuable tools, resources, and guidance for older adults, caregivers, and families who want to support emotional well-being in later life.

The session will be presented by Dr. Rene Laje and Yasaman Alavi. Dr. Laje, PhD, LCSW-C, is the Director of Clinical Operations in Mental Health Services at the Jewish Social Services Agency (JSSA). Ms. Alavi, LCPC, is Manager of Seniors' Services at the Sante Group Medical Health Clinic (Silver Spring).

The session will be virtual via Zoom. The Zoom link will be sent to registered participants about 1 week before the event. Given Zoom restrictions, registration will be limited to 95 attendees.
