About this event

Understanding the Spectrum of Care: Navigating Palliative Care and Hospice Services
Tuesday, May 13, 4:00-5:00 pm

This 40-minute presentation explores the critical distinctions between palliative care and hospice services, addressing common misconceptions while providing practical guidance for patients and families. We'll examine how palliative care focuses on symptom management and improved quality of life throughout serious illness, while hospice provides comprehensive end-of-life care for those with terminal diagnoses.

The discussion will highlight the voluntary nature of both services, emphasizing patient autonomy and the ability to transition between care models as needs evolve. We'll review referral processes, eligibility requirements, and payment structures—including Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance coverage. Finally, we'll address relevant state-specific regulations that impact service delivery and patient rights, equipping attendees with knowledge to make informed healthcare decisions during challenging times. There will be ample time for Q&A after the presentation.

Our speaker is Rory B. Farrand, MS MA MSN, APRN-BC. She is currently Senior Consultant at Confidis Consulting, LLC. Previously she was Vice President, Palliative and Advanced Care, National Alliance for Care at Home.
