Start the new year by making a nutrition plan based on the latest research.<br /><br />In this session by Dr. Katie Starr, Vivo's Chief Scientific Officer and a registered dietitian, we'll learn about the roles and importance of dietary protein, particularly for people over the age of 65. Learn about the latest expert guidelines and recommendations for dietary protein intake for aging adults, and how changes to diet can improve your wellbeing. <br /><br />Registration open to all village members and friends:<br />https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZUkceitqT8tGdATuUvWVSVLDHcFkgB7Ae9e<br /><br />Speaker: Kathryn (Katie) Nicole Porter Starr, Ph.D., RDN, LDN<br /><br />Associate Professor of Medicine, Senior Fellow, Center for the Study of Aging and Human Development, Duke University School of Medicine<br /><br />Dr. Starr’s career direction was inspired at an early age watching her mother lead adults 55+ in strength training and aerobics. She learned the value of movement with age and the importance of considering age and ability in encouraging people to fitness. Her passion led her to pursue a career in gerontology. She received a B.A. in Exercise Science, M.S.M.A in Nutrition and Ph.D. in Nutrition from the University of Georgia. She served as a postdoctoral scholar at Duke University’s Center for Aging and Human Development and Geriatric Fellow at Durham VA Health Care System. <br /><br />Dr. Starr is a leader in the field of aging, nutrition and exercise and has published extensively on subjects spanning nutrition and exercise. She has also received grants to study such areas as perihabilitation in older veterans undergoing surgery, muscle health during obesity reduction, maintaining physical function using telehealth and joint health including osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
